TEDx talk is perhaps one of the most nerve-wracking experiences I have professionally faced. It isn’t difficult because I am insecure about my own story or experiences, but rather because the TED organization has accomplished something truly profound. TED has given speakers the ability to share their vision for the world in eighteen minutes and to change lives using cutting edge streaming video that is available to everyone with an Internet connection. As I prepare for my own talk I have been watching the many giants that have spoken before me, the large, red T and E and D displayed prominently behind them. I have learned many valuable lessons, consumed many fascinating facts, and seen that I am not alone with the nerves. But it is still humbling to know that I will be included in an event with so many powerful speakers, and in an organization that has done so much for humanity. It is also humbling to know that my talk will be available to so many. From Roku to Hulu, to YouTube and beyond, the global reach of TED is astounding and awe inspiring. It is enough to make any author/speaker shake in their boots. Fortunately I have learned that sometimes the most difficult things we can do are truly the most important and worthwhile, and as I move forward, less than two months away from this incredible opportunity, I am encouraged to know that with only eighteen minutes we can change the world.
